SeediqBale

So tonight I went to see Seediqbale. Which is a Taiwanese movie (which is really popular here) about the beginning of the Japanese rule here in Taiwan and one of the revolts that happen during the rule. It was a very sad movie. But gave me a better insight into Taiwanese history.
There was no English subtitles in this movie. I watch it with Chinese subtitles. The movie was spoken in a Taiwanese aboriginal language, which even the Taiwanese couldn't understand. Then there was Japanese in the movie. So basically with the body language, subtitles and Japanese I could understand and get the movie.

Moon Festival

On September 9th my club got together and had a party at a Karaoke place. We basically spent the evening eating, winning money (I got 5$), getting prizes ,watching a magic show, watching a performance of a guy change faces (literally his mask he had on kept changing faces every three seconds) and singing karaoke. As I know no Chinese songs yet I sang Ashlee Simpson - Pieces of Me.

The south of Taiwan is SO BEAUTIFUL!!!!!!! (BTW if you did not know, Taipei ,where I live, is in the North) I seriously can not believe it. It sort of reminded me of Japan, but then again it didn't. There were so many mountains 0_0 Of course the south of Taiwan is more tropical so that means more BUGS -_- I accidently left a package of m&m in the room, in my Host Aunt's Villa (the one we stay at while in the south), and thousands of bugs took refuge in my room :( But once I got rid of the package they all went back out to who knows where.
So anyways. On the 10th to the 12th of September I stayed in Minong. Which is a small rural area in the south of Taiwan. My host aunt has a villa out there. Even though she lives in Taipei she goes out and lives in the villa during Holidays. I had a 3 day weekend (instead of 2) because it was Mid Autumn Break (or Moon Festival break).
I went with my Host 爸爸 (father), his 2 sisters, my Host Uncle and my Host Cousin.
It was a pretty cool time. Especially since I left all electronics (yes that right) at my house in Taipei. So basically I spent the weekend enjoying the view, reading and just tagging along with my family.
I did so many things during that 3 day stay:
-Went to a tree farm (a place that grows trees...like palm trees). This place grows trees and then makes products out of them such as coffee, tea cup holders, skin care products ect; I also saw a 200 year old tree 0_0
-Of course since the south is such a tropical place I got to eat and see a lot of fruits. I got to see Bananas and drink coconut juice. I also got to drink something called Pineapple & Vinegar (which surprisingly isn't a bad combination). I also came to the conclusion that I do not like coconut juice & soybean milk. Soybean milk is more popular here then milk. Taiwanese are all about what's healthy.
On my second day I went to Kaohsiung. Which is the second largest city in Taiwan. It about a hour from Minong. My host father works and lives there during the week. Then commutes by train back to Taipei on Weekends. BTW I have also come to the conclusion that I do not like the bullet train. It gives me a headache. It goes to fast 0_0
This city is very cute. It has big buildings and is not crowded, like Taipei, (or as crowded). It has mountains peaking out in the background as well . Sadly even though I love Kaohsiung, I am in love with Taipei more. Something about the quick atmosphere a peals to me.
Also in the south no one speaks english :) So I learn a lot of Chinese. In Taipei so many people speak English . And the signs always have English. It kind of makes it hard to learn Chinese.
Though in Minong, near the villa, I met a girl (age 25) who could speak very good English. Her family is friends with my host aunt and uncle. We talk and play around on the internet for about a hour or so. It was fun.
But anyways in Kaohsiung we ate at a restaurant , saw my host father's work, went furniture shopping and went to a cafe (engrish sign of the cafe is above). IT HAD THE BEST HAZELNUT LATTE EVER.
I also got to meet my host cousins friend. hmm....what else. I basically just enjoyed the week and the scenery. BUT SERIOUSLY....if any of you ever come to Taiwan you must see the south. It is just breath taking .
Well Until Next time
