MY FIRST HOST FAMILY :) :)

HAPPY MOTHERS DAY :) :) What did you guys do for mothers day? I went to my mom's hometown where all my relatives gathered (Uncle, Aunt, Cousins, Grandma & Grandpa, Mom & Me) and we had supper together. It was nice gathering and I enjoyed it. It was a bit sad though. My Grandmother has Alzheimer's disease and it is taking a real toll on her. She can not really remember who any one is. Some days she is happy as a child and others she is sad. My Grandmother is an American (Los Angelas) who move to the frigid center of Canada when she was young. She did not like Canada for the first ten years and because of her Era she kept her emotions inside for the most part. When the disease started to become more obvious to everyone around her anger she held inside was unleashed. As a child I remember her as a stern, angry old women. She treated everyone kindly and sincerely, but to me it was the total opposite. I always pondered why she treated me so and my answer came when I found a old photograph of her younger sister (who died when my Grandma was a child). I look identical to this younger sister and so, now as I reminisce, I realized she was treating me as a sibling more then a Grandchild. Today when we were driving her back to the old folks home she, for the first time, called me by her sister's name. I know this is a sad tale but I wish everyone the best on Mother's Day. Don't take what you have for granted. I am now coming to the realization that any day or any year my Grandmother could pass away and that makes me sad. Today when we return her to the old folks home she was sad, unhappy and did not what to stay. That got me thinking that one day I might be in one and I would never want to. I can only guess how my Grandmother feels.

ON TO SOME MORE EXCITING NEWS!! So yesterday (May 7th) I finished filming my orientation video for youtube. It was around 10PM I say. I also was chatting to my friend on msn. So once I finished I went on the internet and logged into my g-mail account to check my e-mails. I have about 5 new e-mails and one of them the senders name is Chinese looking. I automatically think it's spam and am about to delete it when I see the words "first host family" in the first line of the e-mail and the subject is : "Greetings from Taiwan". It then struck me that my first host family has contacted me. I was so excited that I started to tell my friend on msn except in non coherent English. Turns out she was away from the computer. She came back ten minutes later and told me that if I don't explain to her whats going on, in proper English, she is calling the cops. I explained what happened to her, btw.

Anyways the e-mail was a page length with 24 pictures attached. It was in complete English. I think my host mom wrote the e-mail so I assume she speaks English (or a bit of it). Because the e-mail was well written. The family gave me their contact info, where I am staying in Taiwan (City wise and Place wise), how many members are in the family, what their hobbies are, what the parents do for a living and info about the Rotary Club/District I'll be apart of.

So I will be living with a family of five Their is a host mom, host dad and 2 host sisters. The host sisters are 16 and 18. The 16 year old will be going to France on exchange while I am there. So I will not get to meet her, but I will probably get to meet the older one. I am not going to give out my host families names on the internet because I do not think that is appropriate. They also have a 1 year old puppy And I thought I was going to have spend a year without a dog!! I am so happy. I have never lived in a family of more then 2 or 3 before. BTW this is my first host family with Rotary you get about 2 to 3 (sometimes 4).

I will be apart of District 3490. I already know 4 people in my district. 2 of them (one not being in my district) will live near where I am living.

So where will I be living?? What City?? New Taipei City . More specifically Sanchong (Sangchong) District of New Taipei City New Taipei City is the most populated place in all of Taiwan. It is basically next to Taipei the Capital of Taiwan. I am happy and excited with my placement. My host family sent me loads of pictures and they all look beautiful. My host family even has a villa in South of Taiwan (I'll be staying in North of Taiwan). I did not think I would get a city placement so I feel a bit surreal about it. But excited.

I still do not know my school placement. However my host family told me that once they know where I am going they will e-mail it to me. They will also e-mail me my order of host family. They also told me that my placement package/ guarantee forums are in the mail coming to Canada.

All this news makes me happy. I seriously wasn't expecting a e-mail from them. Or even a e-mail this soon. I wonder when I'll depart??

Wanna see some pictures of where I'll be living?? This is my district in New Taipei City:
